Power System Protection and Control Engineer
ROLE SUMMARY
The Power System Protection and Control Engineer will be responsible for executing Protection & Control Engineering and Consulting services in Transmission, Distribution and Industrial markets in the US and Canada. Activities will include designing, programming, testing and commissioning protection and control related applications for power system design and substation automation projects.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Perform engineering studies and analyses such as short circuit studies, protective device
coordination and load flow etc.
• Design protection and control schemes to fulfill user specifications and requirements
• Fabricate relay setting files to include programming of Protection and Control Elements, Control
Logic and Communications settings
• Test customized Protection and Control solutions both in house and at customer installations
• Provide field support up to and including commissioning of new applications
• Assist software tool development to automate the engineering process internally and externally
with key utility partners
• Participate in project meetings with project managers and customers on technical discussions
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
• B.S or higher degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering specialized in power system.
• Six (6) years of experience in design, study, and analysis of electric power systems.
• Configuration relay with GE relays and Schweitzer relays experience
• Testing relay
• Background with utilities and integrators
DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS:
• Knowledge of power system steady and transient analysis, fault study and protection theory.
Familiar with symmetrical components.
• Working experience with study software and power system tools such as Mathcad, MATLAB,
ASPEN, CAPE or Etap
• Working knowledge on substation communication protocols such as IEC 61850, DNP, Modbus
• Knowledge or field experience with system commissioning and testing.
• Ethical and professional business manner in interaction with team members and customers.
• Technical skills to execute projects, identify opportunities, and write SOW proposals.
• Proficient in technical report writing, MS Word and Excel
• Strong communication skills including technical writing and presentations.
• Strong learning skills, demonstrated team player and Customer focused
• Willingness to travel 20% of the time and must comply with all relevant company travel and tax
policies
