Design Release Engineer in Windsor, ON

The Component Design and Release Engineer is responsible for the development and release of one or more of the devices/systems: cooling system, water pump, Degas Line, Ventilating Line.

The Engineer will coordinate required testing activities and communicate results between the supplier and cross functional groups. The job requires frequent interfacing with tier 1 suppliers to track program timing and deliverables.

The Engineer will be involved in resolving component software and hardware issues alongside the supplier at both the component level and vehicle level.
The Engineer is required to supporting manufacturing builds at both supplier facility and Client’s vehicle assembly plants.
The Engineer will work with supplier on DFMEA (Design failure mode extract and analysis) and DV (design validation) and PV (prototype validation) tests and is responsible to meet Client’s published product milestones. The Design and Release Engineer (DRE) job responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Responsible for authoring Performance Specifications (PF-spec) and Design Validation Test Plan (DVP).
  • Review and sign off on Suppliers Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
  • Review, develop and verify Diagnostic Definition Tables (DDT) meets vehicle level and component level functional objectives and warranty analysis requirements.
  • Apply design best practices and lessons learned from past product developments
  • Responsible for developing and releasing modules for each Product Team by monitoring timelines, project deliverables, and cross platform read across.
  • Responsible to interface with EE systems engineering in the development of vehicle functional (VF) specifications and work with our suppliers on Requirements Analysis (RAR).
  • Review and approve software and hardware releases/changes including DVP&R’s (Design Validation Plan and Report) and Software Component Verification/Validation Reports (CVVRs’s).
  • Support efforts to meet warranty targets and relevant quality service field initiatives.
  • Communicate component product development status on a weekly basis via DRE authored and maintained open issues list/project timelines and technical presentations.
  • Ensure component level regulatory compliance requirements are met by coordinating with suppliers and internal client’s regulatory compliance teams.
  • Interface with global employees to harmonize product designs, processes, and documentation to promote component re-use.

Expected high level of communication/leadership competency. Direct suppliers in developing, testing and releasing hardware and software to meet Client’s vehicle level functional objectives and sub-system level behavior objectives. Directly involved with supplier design efforts and design reviews to ensure the supplier design meets Client’s expectation as listed in company’s specifications. Responsible for meeting all vehicle program milestones and conducting all releasing processes within Company related to the component and its interface within the vehicle.
