Medical Advisor (Sanofi-Aventis activities)

One year contract to start
Leading pharmaceutical client in Toronto, job is currently remote

The Medical Advisor will be responsible for providing medical and/or scientific support to the CSU for Phase I to IV studies, and will maintain a network of experts in the relevant therapeutic areas, in order to facilitate the conduct of clinical research trials in Canada. The Medical Advisor will function as a medical and/or scientific expert and will be involved in therapeutic and medical training for the CSU.

Key responsibilities and duties for this job:
CLINICAL TRIALS FEASIBILITY
Assess feasibility of conducting international protocols in Canada:
Review and input into international extended synopses and protocols
Collect documentation and information to determine feasibility of conducting the proposed study and to support go/no-go decision
Collect information and input from opinion leaders and clinical research experts in the relevant therapeutic areas
Will liaise with Corporate teams during study feasibility

MEDICAL AND/OR SCIENTIFIC SUPPORT
Provide medical/scientific support to CSU staff:
Serve as local trial medical advisor for clinical trials in the therapeutic area of responsibility
Responsible for answering medical and/or scientific questions related to the protocol
Review serious adverse events and monitor patient safety as required by the CSO
Responsible for reporting any new information that may impact on the conduct of clinical trials. Eg. Scientific information released at congresses
Ensure progression of clinical trials by resolving medically related issues
Assist with medical responses to Health Authorities

THERAPEUTIC TRAINING
Basic medical and/or scientific training to new hires
Provide training to CSU staff on protocols, therapeutic area, disease, products, and medical environments

EXTERNAL NETWORKING
Develop and maintain optimal relationships with opinion leaders and scientific institutions
Develop network of external experts and potential investigators in key therapeutic areas
Exchange information between R&D and other departments within the affiliate and contribute to Medical Department Team meetings related to the therapeutic area to ensure objectives of these meetings are met
Provide input into investigator selection according to centre qualifications
Review applicable publications and literature related to on-going and new projects
Participate in key congresses and investigator meetings

Key requirements for this job
Education
Medical Degree (MD) or Graduate degree in Health Sciences

Experience
2 to 5-year experience in Clinical Research within the pharmaceutical industry

Specific skills and/or competencies
Therapeutic expertise in Sanofi-Aventis areas of activity
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Good organization and planning skills
Demonstrated understanding of clinical research field including ICH GCP training
Experience in Immunology and Inflammation is preferred
